It has been another lousy year in the garden. Partly my fault and partly the weather. And there appears to be an all-you-can-eat evening cafe for rabbits that has set up business at the allotment.
But let's not focus on the negatives.
Let's celebrate the positives. There is much to be grateful for but I admit I am struggling a bit at the moment. I am in the doldrums and I haven't a clue why (so unlike me).
I aim to combat that with knitting and baking bread. I had a book token (I know, how quaint!) so treated myself to Dan Lepard's The Handmade Loaf. I like his Short and Sweet which I received for Christmas so I'm hoping this will be just as good.
It was published a while ago and should be just the ticket for making fancy pants bread. It's subtitled Contemporary European Recipes for the Home Baker.
I've also been enjoying the first strawberries from the plot and the first sweet peas from the garden. Everything seems so much later this year but all the more sweeter for it.
Your strawberries look lovely, there have only been Alpine strawberries in our garden so far, the bigger berries seem to be taking a lot longer to ripen.

My little garden seems to be an all you can eat buffet for slugs. I am sure I planted some courgettes but they have gone. I am not you " out there witha torch picking them off "kind of gal. I am a plant it and ignore it. You either grow or not but don't expect too much attention. Someone suggested potatoes were good for that. We have 2 bags on the path with potatoes in and they are now so huge you can't get down the path. Does that mean they are ready? Partly because I would like to be able to get down the path......
Nice to have you back

I think everyone is suffering this year with the weather, the plants and us! i think it drags you down. We don't normaly get strawberries til the last week of june, but then this is n'ireland i'm talking about. As for sweetpeas, yours look lovely and I didn't even get round to planting any. I did have pumpkins, but they are now dead, eaten by slugs, but I also found the slugs ate the new strawberry plants too!!We all just need a dry sunny spell to lift us all. x

Not a strawberry in sight on our plot (we had to buy all new ones and they're tiny plants). No I'm not jealous at all!
I simply cannot believe you have sweetpeas! Mine our about 3 inches high and look miserable. Oh this weather is poo.
Hugs and love xxxx

Don't loiter down there in the dreary doldrums too long, Debs, climb on up and out quick!

Love the new look of the blog - I've been away for a while!
We have had lots and lots of strawberries but not much else.
So far.
